A painter of marine and figurative subjects, Amos abandoned the use of brushes using his hands, soft rags and a pallette knife this lent a greater immediacy to his paintings.

AntHony was born in Bristol in 1950. As a young man he worked with horses and as a nurseryman. This was followed by a career at sea working on trawlers, tugs and deep sea cargo ships. By 1980, he had begun to paint seriously spending more and more time experimenting with differant subject matter, bits of card, scraps of material - all to bring different textures to his work.

His preferred subjects were related to the sea - the shipyards, scrapyards, working ships and fishing boats that had spent years at sea.

Later his work expanded to include architectural, farming and city and town based subjects.

Constantly experimenting he was inspired by the elements, his paintings reflected the changing seasons, the weather, stormy skies, colours of the atmosphere. His love of outdoor life gave him a unique ability to interpret the changing moods of his environment. His studio did not contain a single paintbrush he worked with rags and his fingers.

The sad loss of this talented artist while his work was constantly progressing to higher levels is a tragedy.
